On behalf of the Kaslo infoNet Society (KiN) we wish to apologize for the recent disruptions you experienced to your high-speed Internet service. Each occurrence was a separate power malfunction with our equipment on Mt. Kaslo. Each occurrence required our volunteers to arrange for helicopter service, to troubleshoot and replace the malfunctioning equipment as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your patience with our non-profit, volunteer-operated service. We endeavour to provide you with the best possible service at all times; however, from time to time service disruptions do occur and take time to address due to the remote and rugged locations of much of our network equipment.
Should you need to determine the current status of our service during any future outage in the south, please call us at 250-353-1546. We will provide updated information on this line and you can also leave us a message to provide specific details of your situation. It is not possible for us to all customer calls individually and to also focus on making the necessary repairs in a timely manner.
Thank you for choosing KiN as your high-speed Internet service provider. We truly appreciate your business and do everything in our power to provide you with the most reliable and highest quality service possible.
Michael Rogers
President, Kaslo infoNet

NEEDED: A COPERNICAN SHIFT
http://www.earthpolicy.org/Books/Seg/EEch01_ss1.htm
Lester R. Brown
In 1543, Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus published “On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres,” in which he challenged the view that the sun revolved around the earth, arguing instead that the earth revolved around the sun. With his new model of the solar system, he began a wide-ranging debate among scientists, theologians, and others. His alternative to the earlier Ptolemaic model, which had the earth at the center of the universe, led to a revolution in thinking, to a new worldview.
Today we need a similar shift in our worldview, in how we think about the relationship between the earth and the economy. The issue now is not which celestial sphere revolves around the other but whether the environment is part of the economy or the economy is part of the environment. Economists see the environment as a subset of the economy. Ecologists, on the other hand, see the economy as a subset of the environment.

A Summary of Plan B 3.0: Mobilizing to Save Cililization. by Lester R. Brown photos by Yann Arthus-Bertrand The production of this presentation is to provide a brief but engaging summary of the book’s key concepts. By helping interested parties spread the Plan B vision, we hope to encourage social and political involvement in critical environmental issues--for example, banning new coal-fired power plants or implementing an economy-wide carbon tax to help stabilize climate. Please review this presentation and discuss with your Family and Friends!

Helping Hand Trust The Helping Hand Trust gives a financial helping hand to adult residents of Kaslo and area D when they have to leave the area for medical testing or treatments. Even though the cost of treatments is mostly covered by MSP, travel and accommodation costs may add up to be a financial burden for many. This is where the Helping Hand Trust can lend a helping hand. The aim is to cover costs related to medical treatments, but this may also include needs such as paying for ambulance costs, day care, or the cost of getting a housekeeper when a parent is away for medical tests or treatments. Chronic medication costs are not generally included, but any request for donations will be considered and discussed by the directors. The purpose is not to cover the total costs involved, as donations are given according to funds available in the Trust. Please contact any of the directors, below, if you have to leave the area for medical tests or treatments, and need financial assistance, or if you know of someone who may need our help. All cases are treated as strictly confidential, and details are shared even under the directors on a need to know basis. Donations may be made at the Kaslo Credit Union or given to the treasurer, Elizabeth Scarlett. Directors: Elizabeth Scarlett, Larry Badry, Dave Boland, Jannemé Frouws, Ian Einer, Mary Johnson. |
